Original Vacances au Senegal, Air Afrique, 1968 by Dessirier

Authentic, original 1960s Air Afrique travel poster designed by celebrated French artist and sculptor Jean Dessirier from whom this commissioned to promote tourism to Senegal during a monumental era of independence and cultural rebirth across West Africa.  It forms part of a wider series by Dessirier promoting Air Afrique across several African countries.

Dessirier beautifully captures the soul of Dakar and the rich heritage of Senegal with this striking, regal profile of an African woman adorned in a beautifully patterned, multi-coloured headtie and wrap.  In the background, abstract modernist mid-century architecture contrasts elegantly with a bustling marketplace crowd clad in traditional boubous, perfectly blending heritage with mid-century modernism.
